WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:The Emergency Department is a full-service ER designed to meet the unscheduled and emergency needs of approximately 60,000 Emergency patients per year. STEGH is one of the best performing hospitals in Ontario for ER wait times!
The ER/Admitting Clerk is responsible for interviewing and registering patients into the Cerner system to initiate and maintain an accurate database that will be used by Hospital departments to assist in the provision of quality care for all. In addition, this position will be responsible for all Emergency registrations and inpatient admissions, discharges, and transfers. This department is often the first point of contact for patients and their families.
WHATYOU MUST HAVE:
- Completion of post‑secondary Medical Office Assistant/Health Care Office Assistant course is required
- Minimum of one (1) year Emergency Unit Clerk experience within the last three (3) years with preference being given to those with Emergency experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Working knowledge of general office procedures and methods, and computerized patient database systems to retrieve patient information
- Demonstrated advance computer knowledge and skills with experience using Outlook, Electronic Patient Record, Cerner, LaunchPoint and Microsoft Office
- Proven ability to provide excellent communication and customer service with the public and staff, in person and on the telephone
- Ability to write legibly
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast‑paced environment with many interruptions and changing demand
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program
- Acceptable performance record
- Crisis Intervention Training
- Crucial Conversations Training
The successful candidate must be able to work all assigned shifts by the Hospital including days, evenings, nights, weekends and statutory holidays. In addition, the successful candidate must be willing to work various shifts including 4-hour, 7.5 hour and 11.25 hours when required, meet all requirements of the Collective Agreement related to non-availability and accept short notice relief calls.
