Apex Systems is a large staffing and consulting firm and we are looking for a Lab Technician II with workplace lab experience with wet chemistry techniques, great communication skills, and lab safety knowledge to place at our Chemical Manufacturer client.

Location: Waterloo

*** Please note this is an onsite position required to work in a laboratory environment***

Responsibilities
  • Understanding of laboratory tests to be performed on process chemicals/fluids.
  • Adhere to the principles of corporate Quality Systems.
  • Perform samples.
  • Record and transcribe data in accurate and concise manner.
  • Recognize and react to out of spec data.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely fashion.
  • Perform new procedures with general supervision.
  • General laboratory housekeeping duties to keep laboratory clean and all equipment in good working order.
  • Assist more senior level technicians and chemists with day-to-day workload and method development.
  • Support troubleshooting of problems and follow-up with corrective actions.
  • Ensure instruments are calibrated and meet integrity testing.
  • Adhere to all lab safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Moderate interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Report data to internal and external customers with possible recommendations.
  • Assemble, diagnose, and perform basic repair of equipment.
  • Occasionally visit customer manufacturing facilities to collect samples and provide basic on-site support.
  • Assist in new employee training.
Key Qualifications
  • 1+ year previous lab experience required (academic included)
  • Chemistry BSc preferred.
  • Knowledge of wet chemistry techniques.
  • Understanding of best safety practices.
  • Customer service experience is an asset.
  • Positive team oriented attitude.
  • Ability to self‑direct and take initiative.
  • Demonstration of solid decision‑making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a good command of the English language is mandatory.
  • Convey a positive image to new employees and our customers.
  • Must have a valid driver's license for Ontario.
