Overview
Our Construction Phase Services group located in the Greater Toronto Area (Markham, Whitby, Toronto, and Mississauga) is looking for a Senior Quality Assurance Inspector to perform inspection duties on Highway/Road/Bridge projects.
Our workplace thrives on a hybrid model, combining in‑office collaboration and flexibility. You will work in the office 3 days a week and may be based at any GTA office.
Responsibilities- Work safely and observe or work in conformance with GHD’s Behaviour‑Based Safety culture.
- Complete day‑to‑day inspections of Highway/Road/Bridge projects in accordance with client terms of reference and manuals.
- Make payment recommendations to the Contract Administrator and client staff.
- Daily complete project records and diary entries.
- Monitor contractor work for compliance with contract specifications.
- Monitor contractor work for compliance with applicable safety and environmental legislation.
- Take action, in consultation with the Contract Administrator and in accordance with contract requirements, when non‑conformances are observed.
- Use the Ministry of Transportation Web‑Based Contract Management System on MTO assignments.
- Make recommendations or propose solutions for emerging project issues.
- Work nights, weekends, extended shifts, and overtime hours as necessary.
- Mentor junior staff.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- Support external communications systems.
- Provide operational support and act as first‑line supervisor on construction projects.
- Follow HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and workplace risks, and instruct the team in safe working methods.
- Assign short‑term work schedules to a team of subordinates to achieve expectations while following established timelines.
- Explain local action plans to support team members in understanding tasks and their relation to the organization’s strategy, mission, and vision, and motivate people to achieve local business goals.
- Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve personal performance or monitor team performance, allocate work, review completion, and take corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality.
- Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills.
- Identify instances of non‑compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory codes, report these instances, and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes, implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives, and monitor their effectiveness.
- Minimum 5 years of experience.
- OACETT RCSI designation or PEO EIT designation.
- Past experience grading, asphalt, and concrete work on more than three transportation projects is an asset.
- Sound judgment and decisiveness.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
- Team player and cooperative with other staff, sharing information and knowledge openly.
Salary range: $80,472 – $120,708. The posted range reflects the expected hiring range for GHD locations in major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations.
