The Software Test Engineer works on body control modules and climate control systems, focusing on test automation and scripting for embedded automotive software. Software Test Engineer

The Software Test Engineer works on body control modules and climate control systems, focusing on test automation and scripting for embedded automotive software. In this role, you design, develop, and execute Python-based automated tests to validate software modules that control doors, windows, windshield systems, and potentially climate control systems, ensuring robust functionality and reliability in modern vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for embedded automotive systems, with a focus on body control modules and climate control systems.
  • Create and optimize Python automation scripts to validate software modules for doors, windows, windshield systems, and related body control features.
  • Develop complete, accurate, and reliable test automation solutions for AUTOSAR Classic-based embedded systems.
  • Write and maintain scripting solutions to support test execution, reporting, and analysis.
  • Work with common automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN to design and execute integration and system-level tests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to understand system requirements and translate them into test cases and automation frameworks.
  • Analyze test results, identify defects, and clearly document issues to support efficient troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Continuously improve test coverage, automation efficiency, and test framework capabilities to support high-quality software delivery.
  • Ensure that all test automation and scripting work adheres to established standards and best practices for embedded automotive systems.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in software testing or test automation; candidates with less experience will not be considered.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including the ability to develop and maintain automation scripts and test frameworks.
  • Hands‑on experience with test automation for embedded systems, preferably in the automotive domain.
  • Practical knowledge of AUTOSAR Classic and its application in embedded automotive software.
  • Experience with scripting to support automated test execution and data handling.
  • Familiarity with common automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN.
  • Ability to work with technologies such as Ethernet and Linux in the context of embedded or automotive systems.
  • Capability to complete a Python IKM assessment, with scores of 75 or higher being strongly preferred.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience testing or developing software for body control modules, including doors, windows, and windshield systems.
  • Exposure to climate control systems or other vehicle comfort and convenience features.
  • Experience in embedded automotive systems development or validation.
  • Understanding of software quality assurance practices and test‑driven approaches in automotive environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to diagnose issues in complex embedded systems.
  • Clear communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and document test results.
Work Environment

This position is based onsite at the Waterloo office, with work performed five days per week in a collaborative engineering environment. You will work closely with teams focused on transforming traditional automotive products into software‑driven vehicles, using technologies such as Python, AUTOSAR Classic, CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and Linux. The environment emphasizes hands‑on work with embedded systems and cutting‑edge automotive software, offering opportunities to learn niche skills that are highly sought after across the automotive industry.
