Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Surgical First Assistant, you will provide critical patient care by directly assisting the surgeon during operative procedures, working under their immediate direction. Your role is instrumental in ensuring a safe surgical experience through technical support for exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure.

Every day you will collaborate closely with the surgical team, performing duties under the guidance of the operating surgeon, circulating nurse, and reporting to your designated Team Leader. This involves a range of assigned tasks to support the surgical process effectively.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency in assisting the surgeon, maintaining acute awareness of the surgical field and patient safety.

• Assists with positioning the patient, provides application of surgical antiseptic solution and drapes the patient in a standardized sterile fashion.
• Under physician supervision, may be expected to open and close surgical sites, harvest grafts, assist with hemostasis, dissect and remove tissue, insert devices, alter tissue and other such procedures as requested.
• Provide assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue and applying appropriate wound dressing.
• Under professional supervision, may be expected to perform specific significant tasks, which includes applying and removing splints/casts, placing Foley catheters, and administering local anesthesia.

Sign‑on bonuses up to $20,000 and education assistance (student loan payoff) up to $24,000 are available for eligible hires and positions.

• Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program, upon hire.
• One year of surgical technician experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – CPR, upon hire.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (NASC), upon hire or its equivalent certification.
• Certified First Assistant – Certified Surgical Technologists, upon hire.

• One year of Surgical Assisting experience.
