OverviewThis position works under general direction and requires thorough knowledge of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating technology and its processes and blueprint reading.
Responsibilities- Serves as lead worker (e.g., provide work direction and training) over lower-level air quality technicians and/or incarcerated individuals engaged in installation, preventative maintenance, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems
- Perform highly skilled maintenance and installation work on HVAC equipment
- Periodically inspect operation of equipment; performs preventative maintenance schedules as assigned
- Repairs air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems
- Replaces or repairs pumps, fan motors, thermostats and filters
- Welds metal
- Inspects and tests installed equipment for proper assembly of components and checks for needed repairs
- Determines and completes materials needed, cost estimates, and submit requests to purchase
- Reads blueprints and/or schematic diagrams
- Maintains inventory of HVAC supplies
- Maintains tool count of tools used by incarcerated individuals (e.g., completes tool control forms daily, maintains strict inventory of tools)
- Performs other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties (e.g., performs semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC)
- Ensures compliance with security regulations
- Serves on institutional committees
- Attends training, seminars and/or meetings
- Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement)
- Performs other duties as assigned (e.g., snow and ice removal and grass cutting)
- Appropriate type (i.e., Type I, Type II, Type III or Universal) of certification as 'technician' issued by EPA approved certifying organization per Section 608 of Clean Air Act
- 6 months verifiable experience in heating, ventilation, air conditioning & refrigeration maintenance, repair & installation
- 1 course or 3 months experience in blueprint reading
- 1 course or 3 months experience in hand & power tool operation
- 1 course or 3 months experience in minor welding operation
- Or 6 months experience as Air Quality Technician 1 (52291) with appropriate EPA certifications per Section 608 of Clean Air Act
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
