The role reports directly to the Group Head of Financial Reporting.
What you’ll be doing :
Own and maintain the Group’s technical accounting policies (primarily under IFRS and relevant UK GAAP/Companies Act requirements) and ensure consistent application across entities.
Prepare high‑quality technical accounting papers for management, auditors and the Board on complex or judgemental areas.
Own the effective interest rate (EIR) models for Group debt, including the impact of debt modifications, PIK options and other complex terms.
Lead acquisition accounting for new business combinations, including identification and valuation of intangibles, contingent consideration and goodwill.
Advise on and account for Group restructurings, legal entity rationalisations and intra‑group transfers, including any common‑control or capital reorganisation transactions.
Oversee the Group’s foreign exchange accounting, including functional currency assessments, translation of foreign operations and FX hedge accounting where applicable.
Own the accounting for share‑based payment schemes (including management incentive plans, options and other equity/ cash‑settled awards) under IFRS
2.Ensure appropriate recognition of charges and clear disclosure of schemes, assumptions and sensitivities.
Oversee the Group’s IFRS 16 models and processes, including use of CCH Tagetik or other tools.
Lead the Group’s implementation of IFRS 18, including impact assessment, policy development and changes to primary statements and notes.
Support preparation and review of Group and holding company statutory financial statements, including technical areas, disclosures and narrative reporting.
Oversee the accounting for intercompany loans and balances, including alignment with Treasury systems (e.g. Kyriba) and automation of interest calculations.
Act as a key point of contact for the Group’s auditors on technical accounting matters, including acquisitions, earn‑outs, complex financing and provisions.
Strengthen controls and documentation around key technical accounting judgements and estimates.
What we’re looking for:
Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent), with strong post‑qualification experience in technical accounting.
Background in a large practice (e.g. audit or technical advisory) and/or a complex, multi‑entity Group environment is strongly preferred.
Deep, hands‑on experience in several of the following:
Business combinations and acquisition accounting.
Complex debt and effective interest rate calculations.
Foreign exchange and consolidation of international operations.
Share‑based payments (IFRS
2) and IFRS 16 leasing.
Group restructurings and intra‑group transactions.
Strong understanding of IFRS and UK Companies Act requirements; exposure to UK GAAP/FRC guidance beneficial.
Proven experience working with auditors and external advisers on complex transactions and models.
Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple complex work streams to tight deadlines.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non‑specialists and to prepare concise technical papers.
Proactive, collaborative and comfortable working across Group finance, treasury, tax, legal and local finance teams.
