Assistant Accountant to Financial Controller

We are looking for a hands‑on accountant, either part‑qualified or experienced, to work closely with the Financial Controller in supporting the day‑to‑day accounts function and improving systems and processes, including through more effective use of AI.

This is a broad role for someone who enjoys working through the detail while understanding the bigger financial picture. Preparing management accounts will be a key responsibility, alongside supporting day‑to‑day accounting operations and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Financial Controller with the day‑to‑day running of the accounts.
• Prepare and assist with monthly and quarterly management accounts.
• Sales and purchase ledger management.
• Credit control, including chasing outstanding debts and resolving queries.
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end accounts.
• Assist with budgets, cash‑flow monitoring, and forecasting.
• Support with VAT, payroll, and pension requirements.
• Prepare payments and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Investigate discrepancies and ensure accounts are fully reconciled.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

Part-qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.

Experience in a professional firm or service industry preferred.

Highly competent in Excel. Xero, Sage, or similar accounting systems

Hands-on and willing to get into the detail.

Tech‑savvy and open to using AI and automation to improve the way the finance function operates.

Proactive, organised, and able to manage competing priorities across multiple entities.
