An established and growing accountancy practice is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join its payroll team.
This role offers the opportunity to manage your own portfolio of clients, working across a broad range of payroll requirements while delivering a high-quality service in a professional accountancy practice environment.
We're looking for an experienced payroll professional who thrives on building client relationships, managing deadlines and providing accurate payroll services across multiple clients.
You will take responsibility for managing a portfolio of payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly and within agreed timescales.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing an allocated portfolio of payroll clients
- Processing weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls
- Administering statutory payments and deductions
- Managing workplace pension schemes and pension uploads
- Producing payroll documentation including P45s and P60s
- Registering new clients with HMRC for PAYE
- Monitoring HMRC accounts and investigating discrepancies
- Processing benefits and year-end payroll activities
Advising clients on payroll-related matters - Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Supporting payroll legislation compliance and best practice
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiencies
To be successful, you'll have:
- Previous payroll experience within an accountancy practice, payroll bureau or multi-client environment
- Experience managing a portfolio of payroll clients
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Knowledge of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment
- Experience processing payrolls from start to finish
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
- Excellent client-facing communication skills
- Experience using payroll software and HMRC portals
- Good Excel skills
