Are you an ambitious, driven Finance professional who wants more than just the next step on the career ladder? Do you love developing people, improving how things are done and being part of a team that genuinely wants to succeed? Are you someone who leads from the front, rolls up their sleeves when needed and brings people with them along the way?
If so, this could be a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile UK accounting function within a large, fast-paced, international business.
The opportunity
This is a key leadership role overseeing UK accounting and reporting, working closely with senior Finance colleagues and stakeholders across the wider business, including UK Commercial Finance and international Finance teams. You'll lead an established, technically strong team of qualified accountants, setting the standard, creating the right environment for people to thrive and ensuring the function continues to deliver at a high level.
The role offers genuine scope to influence, improve and evolve how the team operates as the business continues to develop. We want someone who looks beyond today's deadlines, spots opportunities to do things better and has the ambition to grow their impact over time. This is very much a team leadership role, but one for someone who is equally happy getting stuck into the detail when needed.
You'll lead by example, take ownership and never see a task as beneath you.
What you'll be responsible for
Leading and developing the team:
Manage, coach and inspire a team of experienced accountants and assistant accountants, building capability, accountability and a strong team culture.
Owning UK accounting and reporting:
Oversee month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate, timely reporting under US GAAP.
Technical excellence:
Take ownership of UK statutory accounts under IFRS, balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting.
Audit and controls:
Lead the external audit process, maintain a robust internal control environment and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and policies.
Insight and business partnering:
Work closely with senior Finance colleagues and wider stakeholders, providing clear financial insight, accounting guidance and support on business decisions.
Continuous improvement:
Challenge the status quo, identify opportunities for automation and process improvement, and drive more efficient, effective ways of working.
Building for the future:
Develop your people, strengthen the function and help shape how the UK accounting team evolves as the business grows.
Who are we looking for? We're looking for someone with the technical grounding to lead a high-calibre accounting team and the personality, drive and ambition to bring out the best in others. You'll ideally bring:
ACA or ACCA qualification, or an equivalent internationally recognised qualification.
At least four years' post-qualification experience.
A minimum of three years' people management experience, with a proven track record of coaching, developing and leading an accounting team.
Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS, including statutory reporting and external audit management.
Experience in a large, complex, multi-site business, ideally within hospitality, retail or a similarly fast-paced environment.
Strong balance sheet, month-end and financial reporting expertise, alongside an understanding of inventory accounting.
Confidence working with senior stakeholders and communicating technical accounting matters clearly.
Strong Excel skills and experience with a large ERP or financial reporting system;
Oracle and Anaplan XL would be advantageous.
Experience in hospitality or a multi-site operation would be a real advantage, but it isn't the only background we'll consider. We're interested in the quality of your experience, your leadership style and what you could bring to the team. Personality matters just as much as experience.
You'll be someone who:
Is ambitious, proactive and motivated to keep moving forward.
Leads from the front and takes a genuine all-hands-on-deck approach when the team needs support.
Is approachable, collaborative and comfortable working with people at every level.
Enjoys developing talented people, creating opportunities for others and building a team that succeeds together.
