Job Summary
Post will be based at Chase Farm Hospital.
Schedule:
37.5 hours per week (7.5‑hour shifts, Monday to Friday, may be required to work some weekends/Bank Holidays within a rota). We are looking for an admissions administrator in a busy clinical area to provide a front‑line reception service to the Chase Farm chemotherapy unit, delivering high‑standard customer care to patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
The post‑holder must proactively collect, verify and record accurate patient demographic and treatment data, ensure all admissions, discharges and attendances are recorded, and demonstrate the Trust values, responsibilities and person specification. Proven experience in a public/patient‑facing role, clear communication skills, initiative and problem‑solving ability in a clinical environment are required.
Main Duties of the Job- Provide a front‑of‑house reception service for patients or relatives arriving on the unit, welcoming all visitors and directing as appropriate.
- Answer telephones and respond to patient/clinician queries.
- Ensure the bed boards are up to date.
- Organise transport bookings.
- Provide weekly and monthly activity figures to the unit.
- Provide confidential and high‑standard general administrative support to the unit.
- Ensure all patient admissions, discharges and attendances are recorded accurately on Cerner or the relevant electronic system in real time.
- Handle incoming/outgoing post and distribute or act as necessary.
- Perform any other necessary administrative responsibilities for the unit as and when required.

- NWQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
- Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working in a public/patient‑facing role
- Experience and understanding of Cerner or similar electronic patient administration systems
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use own initiative and problem solve in a busy clinical environment
- Good level of computer literacy – proficient in Microsoft Office and database use
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Typing and data entry skills
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of a busy clinical service
- Time management and organisational skills
- Sympathetic attitude to patients and relatives, who may be extremely distressed or anxious
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels
- The ability to manage conflict and identify when escalation to senior staff is necessary
