Position: GP Practice Receptionist / Call Handler
Location: Greater London

Are you an experienced GP Practice Receptionist looking for a full time contract? If yes, this is the right advert for you! We are currently recruiting experienced GP Practice Receptionists to join our dynamic and forward thinking team, we offer a supportive workplace where contributions are truly valued.

Reception staff work within the practice call centre and on the front counter at either site

Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team

Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, either in person or via the telephone

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way

Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies

Uphold the values in the GP Direct mission statement and patient charter

Main duties of the job

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the reception team may include any or all of the items in the following lists.

  • Provide a welcoming effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors
  • Undertake all reception duties as required
  • Support clinicians in emergency situations

Call Centre

  • Attend to incoming calls from patients and other callers as required, this is a primary element of the roles
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
  • Report all Significant events/ incidents in accordance to local protocols
  • Process, acknowledge and complete practice notes (PNs) as per rota, twice a day
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines, electronically and manually

  • Extensive use of information technology to enhance the patient journey and improve performance
Job responsibilities

This role requires a 38-hour workweek with the following fixed schedule (Please do not apply if you are unable to work these hours)


  • * Monday:
    8:00 AM to 18:30 PM - 60min unpaid lunch break
  • Tuesday:8:00 AM to 18:30 PM - 60min unpaid lunch break
  • Thursday:8:00 AM to 18:30 PM - 60min unpaid lunch break
  • Friday:8:00 AM to 18:30 PM - 60min unpaid lunch break

Please be advised that this schedule is set and cannot be adjusted.

* GP Direct has an extended clinic every Monday where the practice is open from 8am to 8pm.

You will be required to work from 6.30pm to 8.00pm which usually works work out to be 4 or 5 times a year.

Person Specification Experience
  • MUST have experience of working within general practice, the NHS or supporting organisations such as 111
Skills
  • Ability to provide quality care Good interpersonal and communication skills Good IT skills
  • Knowledge of general practice policies and systems
Qualifications
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
