Location: Greater London

We are looking to recruit a friendly full time and part time GP Receptionist/administrator. This will include working morning and evening shifts on rotation.

Main duties of the job

The post requires someone with initiative, enthusiasm, excellent communication skills, empathy with patients and colleagues, well organised, reliable and with a flexible approach to team work. The role involves reception and admin duties both patient facing and over the phone.

You will need excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work as part of a team while managing your own workload.

Job responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team.
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.
  • Open/lock up of practice premises and maintain security.
  • Print blood forms.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services).
  • Pick up calls from patients and other services, e.g. hospitals.
  • Assist doctors and patients with queries.
  • Liaise with hospitals and pharmacy.
  • Submit e-consult lites, process e-consults and e-consult lites.
  • Triage patients to the appropriate services available.
  • Complete tasks from clinicians.
  • Scan and fill clinical/admin letters.
  • Process incoming post and emails.
  • Forward prescriptions to the doctors.
  • Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
  • Process samples received from patients following urine protocol.
  • Process referrals on a day-to-day basis ensuring they go to the correct service.
Qualifications
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
  • Basic IT skills with experience of working with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
  • Previous work experience in General Practice using EMIS and Docman.
Experience
  • Previous experience in dealing with the public such as a receptionist or admin role.
