Part-Time Receptionist 30 Hours per Week (Across 4 Days)
Join our friendly and hardworking General Practice team!
We are seeking a reliable, organised, and approachable individual to join us as a part‑time receptionist, working 30 hours per week across 4 days.
Key responsibilities include:- Booking and managing patient appointments
- Handling patient enquiries via phone and face‑to‑face
- Scanning, filing, and supporting general administrative tasks
Previous experience within a medical or administrative environment would be advantageous, but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
This role is ideal for someone who is a strong team player with excellent communication and organisational skills, and a positive, patient‑focused attitude.

Main duties of the jobGreeting and assisting patients in a polite and professional manner
Booking, amending, and cancelling appointments
Managing telephone enquiries and passing messages to the appropriate staff
Checking in patients and helping with general enquiries
Scanning and filing documents into patient records
Supporting with patient registration and updating personal details
Handling incoming and outgoing mail
Assisting with general administrative tasks as required
Maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times
What We're Looking ForExcellent organisational and communication skills and a comfort with working under pressure.
Customer service skills are essential, as is the ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment.
A cheerful demeanour and a flexible, team‑oriented attitude will be a real advantage. Previous experience in a receptionist or similar role is preferred, but not essential.

About usWe are a friendly and forward‑thinking GP practice with a team of 20 doctors and, as a training practice, we regularly support up to three GP registrars. Our team is growing and includes a wide range of healthcare professionals such as practice nurses, paramedics, care coordinators, and mental health workers.
The practice operates across two sites, located in East Sheen and Kew, providing comprehensive care to our local community. We use the EMIS clinical system and training will be provided for the right candidate.

Job Summary:
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice. Acknowledge a patient’s arrival at the desk within 2/3 minutes of arriving; if the situation is unmanageable at the time due to the amount of patients waiting, then advise the patients in the queue you will be with them as soon as possible and call for assistance.
- Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures, and make new and follow‑up appointments. Maintain a helpful and professional attitude at all times, even when dealing with challenging, unresponsive, or occasionally verbally abusive behaviour. Never lose your temper; refer to your line manager if necessary.
- Communicate test results using taught skills and ensuring accuracy.
- Alert management on patients records.
- Use judgement and communication skills to ensure patients without appointments but requiring urgent attention are managed appropriately and fairly.
- Be aware of your surroundings and of the patients in the waiting room. Be aware of which doctors and nurses are currently working in the building and whether they have arrived for their clinics. Observe clinics running late and advise patients waiting and offer apologies.
