Location: Greater London
Summary
The Cataloguing Assistant will support the precise recording and cataloguing of objects held within the private residences of TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales. Responsibilities require a high standard of object handling, cataloguing, and data management skills in line with museum best practice. The position is offered on a fixed term contract of 5 months with the possibility of extension, based across multiple sites and will involve regular travel, including overnight stays.
MainAreas of Responsibility
- Accurately record and catalogue a range of objects, furniture and artwork
- Apply professional museum practices to the data capture and handling of catalogue items;
- Work closely and systematically as part of a small team to tight deadlines;
- Work flexibly across multiple sites with respect for the homeowners;
- Exercise a high level of discretion when handling property, ensuring confidentiality is strictly maintained at all times;
- Assist with various other ad hoc tasks as required, including supporting other departments with data logs, etc;
- Comply with all health and safety rules and regulations ensuring own and others’ health and safety at all times.
Essential
- Minimum 3 years experience in cataloguing, archiving or similar role
- Strong understanding of and familiarity with collections management standards
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in documentation and data entry
- Experience managing and maintaining structured data or collection records
- Understanding of museum best practice (SPECTRUM), including conservation and handling protocols
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small, collaborative team
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Professional discretion and ability to handle sensitive or confidential material
- Willingness and flexibility to travel between sites and stay overnight when required
- Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
Previous Experience
- Proven experience in object handling within a museum, gallery, or heritage setting
- Degree or professional qualification in Museum Studies, Archives, Heritage, or a related field
- Experience working in historic houses, private collections, or royal/heritage environments
- Familiarity with collections management systems (e.g. Collections Index+, Axiell, Artlogic)
- Knowledge of decorative arts, historic interiors, or material culture
- An interest in Their Royal Highnesses' work and activities
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week worked Monday-Friday, and such other hours that are necessary for the proper fulfilment of duties, or to meet unexpected or urgent demands.
Location:
Kensington Palace, Norfolk.
