Location: Wood Green Crown Court, London

Salary: £15.59 per hour + Weekly Pay + Holiday Pay

Contract: Full-Time Temporary Assignment via Brook Street (until December 2026, with possibility of extension)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (37 hours per week)

About the Role

Brook Street are currently recruiting for an Operational Support Officer (AO) / Court Usher to join HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) at Wood Green Crown Court. This is a varied and rewarding role, combining courtroom support, customer service, and administrative duties. As an Operational Support Officer (Court Usher), you will play a vital role in ensuring court hearings run smoothly while providing professional support to Judges, legal professionals, jurors, witnesses, defendants, and members of the public.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare courtrooms before hearings and ensure they are ready for use
  • Support court hearings through ushering and courtroom duties
  • Escort jurors, witnesses, defendants, legal professionals, and court users throughout the building
  • Call parties into court and assist the Judiciary during hearings
  • Support the Jury Officer with jury management and related duties where required
  • Respond to face‑to‑face enquiries and provide excellent customer service
  • Process court documentation and maintain accurate court records
  • Scan, file, photocopy, and securely manage confidential documents
  • Provide general administrative support across court operations
Skills & Experience Required
  • Previous administration and/or customer service experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Professional, reliable, and confident in a public‑facing environment
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with sensitive situations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable handling confidential information
