Our Client is hiring for a reputed client in Slough, offering an administrative and reception-focused position within the Probation Service. If you're organised, confident on the front desk, and able to stay composed in busy moments, this could be your next step.

What

you'll be doing
  • Acting as the first point of contact for visitors, telephone callers, and email enquiries-greeting people on probation and visitors professionally and promptly
  • Logging arrivals and departures, issuing visitor passes and security fobs, and ensuring the appropriate staff member is notified
  • Answering basic enquiries about the Probation Service and local Person on Probation support services, and referring more complex questions to the right manager
  • Supporting reception with tact and diplomacy-helping to diffuse potentially difficult situations and recognising when additional support is needed
  • Being alert to conversations that may indicate a safeguarding or risk issue, taking appropriate action by notifying the right contact
  • Managing building logistics, including mail handling, ordering stationery/PPE, deliveries, and meeting room set-up
  • Supporting bookings for rooms, hot desks and car parking, including preparing for events and assisting with event registration
  • Handling day-to-day petty cash and travel warrants, including collection and transport between probation properties
  • Assisting with health and safety and security-acting as key holder where required, operating physical security, testing alarm systems, monitoring CCTV, and supporting evacuation measures
  • Logging building faults and incidents, escalating maintenance/repair issues through the correct channels, and making decisions on urgency within guidelines
  • Providing confidential administrative support to operational teams where needed, including filing, document production, scanning and archiving (including sensitive/highly confidential data)
  • Covering absences and supporting other teams/functions as required (training will be provided)
What you'll bring
  • A friendly, professional manner with strong communication skills-able to speak confidently and write clearly
  • Proven proficiency in ICT skills across the Microsoft Office suite
  • Confidence working in a busy, public-facing environment while maintaining accuracy and discretion
  • The ability to remain calm and use tact in situations that may become challenging, escalating appropriately when needed
  • An eye for safeguarding and risk-knowing when to take remedial action

  • A willingness to adapt to reasonable changes and additional duties of a similar level when required
Additional information
  • Core hours include regular unsocial hours (evenings and/or weekends) based on business need
  • Security and identity checks apply prior to taking up post
  • All external candidates are subject to 6 months' probation (internal candidates are subject to probation if they haven't previously completed a probationary period within HMPPS)
