Are you organised, eager to learn, with a keen interest in business administration? Do you enjoy helping people and working as part of a team? If so, Royal Greenwich has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Caretaking Team as a Business Support Apprentice.
As Business Support Apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting services that help keep our housing estates clean, safe, and well-maintained. You’ll gain valuable workplace experience while earning a salary and studying towards a Level 3 Business Administration qualification.
The Caretaking Team within the Directorate of Housing & Safer Communities is one of the Royal Borough’s most visible frontline services, delivering cleaning and estate services across council‑owned housing estates and supporting residents throughout the borough. In addition to day‑to‑day estate cleaning, we also provide services relating to graffiti removal, void clearances, lift shaft cleansing, window cleaning, bin cleansing, Sheltered Housing cleaning, Temporary Accommodation handyperson services and fire door inspections.
You will be required to perform a range of basic administration duties, including note taking, communicating professionally with residents, Councillors, contractors and Royal Greenwich colleagues, handling calls received by the service, logging the calls and ensuring all the necessary information is gathered from the caller. You will also deal with basic enquiries and direct more complex calls to the appropriate team member.
Under supervision, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to undertake the duties of a Business Support Assistant. Throughout the Apprenticeship programme you will support staff with the following duties:
- Monitoring service requests and supporting the efficient delivery of service to customers.
- Updating records on the Council’s database systems, inputting accurate information and providing data and reports as required
- Taking notes at meetings
- Booking meeting rooms
- Photocopying, scanning and shredding documents
- Supporting the management of the team’s shared email inbox
- Dealing with telephone enquiries
- Logging communal repairs
Personal Development:
To undertake a varied programme of work experience, practical and theoretical training leading to a recognised apprenticeship qualification in Business Admin level 3 as part of an apprenticeship programme. To actively participate in their own development plan, which will be agreed with your line manager and the assessor from the training provider. To undertake the requirements of the academic element of the apprenticeship (e.g. attendance at college and completion of academic work).
A minimum of 20% of working week will be allocated to this.

EligibilityTo be eligible to apply for these apprenticeships you must be living in the Royal borough of Greenwich (or if you have been in the care of the Royal Borough of Greenwich but are or have been in the living outside the borough). These opportunities are also open to Children 16 to 18 years who are looked after by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and have been for more than 13weeks (which does not need to be all one period);
AND
* To care leavers who can be young people aged between 16 and 24 years (to25th birthday) who were looked after by the Royal Borough of Greenwich Children’s Services for a period of 13 weeks or more since the age of 14 (which does not need to be all one period) but must include a time after the 16th birthday.
