Temple Tax Chambers is an award-winning leading set of Barrister’s Chambers specialising in Tax Law. Based in the Inner Temple, we have 17 members and 4 members of staff which makes for a friendly and collaborative working environment. The Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Clerk to join our clerking team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to start or progress a career in clerking, particularly in a specialist area like Tax law.

Main duties include:
  • Assisting the clerking team when required ensuring that a high level of support is always received by members of chambers, team members and clients.
  • Diary Management – Managing members diaries and ensuring there are no clashes and bookings are entered accurately.
  • Case Management – Ensuring all new opportunities and cases are actioned efficiently and in line with Chambers fair allocation of work policy. This includes booking in opportunities and following up with clients, booking in new cases, ensuring work items are added to cases and documents saved and recorded, sending terms of engagement, carrying out AML checks and risk assessments on each client all the while ensuring members are kept updated.
  • Fees Management – Ensuring all fees are billed, reminded and receipted in a timely manner. Negotiating and agreeing fee estimates with clients and following up on new opportunities.
  • Practice Management – Including preparing for and attending practice management meetings with your team, generating and reviewing reports on a monthly basis
  • Litigation Management – Assisting members with dates to avoid, accurately diarising direction deadlines, attending listing appointments, checking court listings and ensuring your team are made aware. Assisting with preparation of authorities bundles and court runs as required.
  • General Administration – Answering the telephone and taking messages. Proof reading. Managing incoming and outgoing post when in the office. Scanning documents and assisting members with GDPR administration surrounding data retention. Annual leave and sickness cover. Assisting the Chambers Administrator with facilities in Chambers and liaising with external suppliers as necessary.
What chambers are looking for
  • 1-2+ years experience preferable but training will be provided.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic individual with strong organisational skills and a keen attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and technology for remote and in office working. Strong understanding of Microsoft tools preferred and experience on LEX case management system (training will be offered).
  • Eager to learn and develop your understanding of tax law and the clerking profession.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team and independently.
  • Ability to prioritise and undertake a number of tasks in line with members and Senior Clerk expectations.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of GDPR legislation and a full appreciation of issues of confidentiality, anti-money laundering and cyber security (training will be provided).
  • Good people management skills.
