The Ward Clerk/Receptionist provides administrative and reception support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the ward. The post holder will be the first point of contact for patients, relatives and visitors, supporting patient admissions, discharges, record management, telephone enquiries and ward communications. The role is essential in supporting patient flow, service delivery and a positive patient experience.
- Provide a professional and welcoming reception service for patients, relatives, visitors and staff.
- Act as the first point of contact for telephone and face-to-face enquiries, responding appropriately or directing queries as required.
- Support patient admissions, transfers and discharges, ensuring all relevant information is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update patient records and electronic systems in line with Trust policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Undertake general administrative duties including data entry, filing, scanning, photocopying and document management.
- Facilitate effective communication between the ward, multidisciplinary teams and other departments.
- Monitor and order stationery and administrative supplies as required.
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the ward and contribute to efficient patient flow.
- Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately, maintaining high standards of customer service and patient experience.
- Work collaboratively with clinical and non‑clinical colleagues to support safe and effective service delivery.

As a Ward Clerk/Receptionist, you will be an integral member of the ward team, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the service and helping to ensure patients, visitors and staff receive an efficient, professional and welcoming experience The Ward Clerk/Receptionist is responsible for providing a comprehensive administrative and reception service to support the effective day-to-day running of the ward.
