Your New Role...
Working across editorial, consumer, and commercial campaigns, this role provides administrative and written support for CNN’s busy London press office team and offers the opportunity to gain an insight into the workings of the world’s leading news gathering organisation.
Your Role Accountabilities...
Support Press Officer on editorial side in day-to-day tasks, including promotion of key CNN interviews and breaking news reports to UK and regional press
Support Press Officer on features/commercial side researching, drafting and distributing press materials on CNN International programming (particularly around CNN’s Africa feature programmes)
Distribution of PR materials to CNN PR in-house and agency teams worldwide
Collaborate with in-house teams in Atlanta and Hong Kong to ensure continuous support for regional editorial and PR departments
Pitching stories to media contacts mainly across the UK in mainstream and digital press
Monitoring and compiling coverage
Driving the creation and circulation of media cuttings reports and suggesting innovative ways the PR team can best display its successes, including presentations and coverage reports
Preparing daily UK coverage summaries to be shared with key internal stakeholders
Managing a contact/distribution database
Preparing and maintaining up-to-date media lists
Maintaining a filing system to store all EMEA clippings
Qualifications & Experience...
You must be a current University student in your 2nd year of study, looking to spend your 3rd year on placement and graduating no earlier than July 2028.
Proven strong, accurate writing ability, with excellent grammar and punctuation
Good copywriting skills and the ability to research and draft press releases
Planning and organisational skills. The ability to plan ahead, anticipate deadlines, and manage a variety of projects at the same time
A good eye for detail and appreciation for regional differences across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region
Strong interest in current affairs and news an advantage
Familiarity with CNN International’s programming output and journalists
IT knowledge across Microsoft Office packages
Common sense and experience in issues management
Ability to prioritise issues/demands and effectively handle enquiries when other team members are out of the office.
Understanding of social media tools
Experience of PR an advantage
Good interpersonal skills with the ability and confidence to communicate with people at all levels
Self-motivated with a proven ability to work as part of a small team
Flexibility and stamina to work in a pressurised and changing environment
Desire to learn and ask questions
Ability to prioritise workload effectively
The Internship…
Salary: £27,000 p/a
Contract Length: 12 months
Start Date:
6th July 2026
