Our legacy of Responsible Investing (RI) spans over 50 years, culminating in a uniquely designed system to deliver superior investment impact and enhanced client outcomes. Our team of over 30 dedicated RI subject matter experts specialise by asset class and role, focusing on Nuveen’s three key principles: ESG integration, stewardship, and impact. All RI team members work to set strategic priorities, ensure best practices, and establish firm‑wide standards within their areas of expertise.
Those with asset class specialisation collaborate closely with investment analysts, portfolio managers, risk management professionals, and others across the organisation to drive the scale and quality of ESG integration and RI‑focused product development.
Depending on evolving business needs, the internship will involve some of the following tasks and deliverables:
- Market research:
Research RI/ESG industry trends, market dynamics, competitors, and product characteristics to support development of Nuveen RI capabilities - ESG analysis:
Conduct analysis on financially material ESG issues for key sectors in Nuveen’s portfolio to support investment processes and company engagement - Communications:
Contribute to reporting and communications related to the firm’s stewardship and RI activities - Client engagement:
Support responses and process improvements related to RFPs, RFIs, DDQs and other queries from clients and business partners across the organisation - Presentations & proposals:
Support preparation of internal and external presentations, proposals, and recommendations - Collaboration:
Support collaboration and coordination among central RI team and sustainability/ESG/RI subject matter experts across teams and affiliates - Regulation:
Contribute to projects, initiatives and processes related to ESG/RI regulatory developments, data sources and emerging industry practices
- 10‑Week Program:
Participate in a robust training curriculum, company functions, speaker series, lunch‑and‑learns, and social networking events for career growth and personal development. - Hands‑On
Experience:
Attend business meetings, deliver presentations, explore business‑specific tasks, contribute to projects, and work closely with cross‑functional groups. - Global Exposure:
Connect with Senior Business Leaders globally across Nuveen and TIAA. - Career Opportunities:
Potential to secure a permanent role upon graduation.
- Academic Excellence:
On track for at least a 2:1 or higher undergraduate degree (or equivalent), preferably in finance, business, mathematics, business administration, or a similar field. - Interest in Investment Management:
General knowledge about investment processes, preferably within fixed income and private markets. - Passion for Sustainability:
Understanding and curiosity about how ESG/RI consideration can impact financial risks and opportunities. - Client Relationship Management:
Experience in building relationships through previous internships, part‑time work, student organisations, or volunteer roles. - Communication
Skills:
Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise written and verbal communications tailored to different audiences. - Team
Collaboration:
Proven ability to work effectively in team settings by actively listening to others' perspectives, contributing constructively to group discussions. - Critical Thinking:
Demonstrated ability to understand business problems from multiple angles, identify key drivers of outcomes, and propose solutions that balance competing priorities. - Microsoft Office Proficiency:
Strong competency with Microsoft Office with at least intermediate level PowerPoint skills and advanced Excel skills. - Initiative and Ownership:
Track record of taking ownership of projects or responsibilities without constant supervision.
