Trade & Category Marketing Manager - Global FMCG Brand Leader [£55-60K]
c.£55-63K plus £6K Cash Car Allowance, Bonus and Excellent Benefits
Our client is a dynamic global FMCG business with a portfolio of much-loved household name brands, combining heritage brand strength with entrepreneurial energy and a commitment to continuous learning and creating opportunities for its employees. With an ambitious growth plan, and team of blue-chip marketers, it is seeking a smart, business savvy Trade & Category Marketing Manager to lead category strategy and drive commercial success on one its key household brand categories.
This is not a pure operational trade marketing role, but it sits at the heart of customer & category strategy, where you'll combine consumer insights with commercial expertise to develop winning customer account plans and drive growth with robust 4P strategies and plans. You'll analyse market data to build compelling category strategies, then work closely with sales teams to ensure successful implementation.
Your work will directly influence how products are positioned, priced and promoted in-store, driving brand and category growth and building exceptional relationships.
- Lead trade & commercial strategy and 4
Ps planning for major retailers, driving commercial activity for a multi-brand FMCG portfolio - Develop data‑driven customer/channel strategies using insight data to optimise product, pricing & promotional effectiveness
- Champion new product launches to market, ensuring successful in‑market execution
- Collaborate with sales teams to translate category insights into action plans that drive business growth
- Manage trade spend allocation and develop account‑specific promotional programs that drive results
- Work in a dynamic, innovative business culture with autonomy to make bold decisions
- Develop and lead 4P category plans, translating business objectives into clear execution roadmaps for sales teams
- Gather and analyse consumer, shopper and channel insights to inform category strategy
- Conduct range & gap analysis and create action plans to address performance shortfalls
- Build channel strategies that optimise product assortment, shelf placement and stock availability
- Recommend pricing & promotional strategies aligned with category success models and business objectives
- Champion new product market entry, tracking and analysing performance against targets
- Develop trade spend guidelines, allocate budgets and review field spend to ensure commercial efficiency
- Create national and account‑specific promotional programmes and key event strategies with customers
- Present market trends, consumer insights and competitive analysis to key customer stakeholders
- Support demand planning activities to ensure product availability and stock optimisation
- Strong academics with proven FMCG experience in trade/customer/category marketing
- Proven category management experience in FMCG or packaged consumer goods
- Strong commercial acumen and clear understanding of customer management processes
- Advanced proficiency with consumer & shopper insight data (Nielsen, Kantar, Retailer data)
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence with data analysis and technology platforms
- Ability to analyse complex information and translate findings into straightforward, actionable plans
- Proven capability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels
- Demonstrated P&L management and financial acumen
- Proven track record in sales negotiation and key account management
- Experience with ecommerce data analysis and digital activation
- Strong collaboration and partnership skills with ability to work cross‑functionally
- Consultative approach to customer engagement and problem‑solving
