Trainee Planner
Overall purpose of the job:
To ensure effective planning of works for operatives acting on information received from Ontrack or other computerised in‑house systems.
- Ensure operatives receive daily work orders in good time to carry out their work effectively.
- Plan each day’s work to be achievable within legal constraints and in accordance with the Working Time Directive, ensuring compliance and operatives’ well‑being.
- Structure planned work to minimise allocation of fines and penalties for non‑completed or over‑ran works.
- Prioritise planned works to accommodate emergency situations or maintenance.
- Liaise with gangs and their managers throughout the day via telephone and face‑to‑face where necessary, giving clear and concise information and prioritising urgent planned works for emergencies.
- Identify works that need to be carried out by external companies (e.g., line marking).
- Provide administrative support to the Reinstatement Managers, Area Contract Managers and Client Contract Managers so that the contract runs smoothly and effectively.
- Liaise with the Purchasing Department regarding purchase of materials (e.g., tarmac) and ensure correct company procedures are followed.
- Communicate with gangs, digging gangs, client agents, council staff, SQS agents, other SQS planners, managers, customers, and clients where relevant.
- Ensure all work is carried out to the quality specifications/criteria of SQS or customer specifications.
- Ensure sites comply with the current NRSWA and customer requirements.
- Ensure sites are cleared after closure to secure public safety and customer satisfaction, avoiding Section 74 charges.
- Maintain ongoing project jobs.
- Follow the “Speak Up” process for raising issues or concerns at any time.
- The manager should first contact their immediate line manager to discuss and agree the correct course of action.
- If the next level manager is unavailable, raise the issue to the next level manager or an equivalent person within the business.
- If in doubt, always “speak up” and report or discuss concerns with an appropriate manager.
- Apply the principles of STAN (Stop, Think, Assess, No Excuses) to complete tasks safely.
- Follow safe systems of work at all times.
- Comply with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Take all reasonable steps to uphold the environmental values of the company.
- Apply the principles of MORA – Meet our customers’ expectations, Open and honest, put yourself in their shoes, act with integrity, recognize our responsibilities, and always deliver the ultimate customer experience.
