Position: Responsible AI Lead
Location: Greater London

Railpen is responsible for safekeeping and investment of around £34billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK’s largest and longest‑established pension funds.

Based in our London office with hybrid working, the Responsible AI Lead will act as Railpen’s subject‑matter expert for the responsible adoption and use of artificial intelligence across the organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the subject matter expert and lead responsible adoption of AI across the organisation.
  • Build, embed and maintain a robust framework for AI governance, risk management and assurance aligned with Railpen’s technology, security and governance standards.
  • Work closely with technology, risk and wider business teams to identify, assess and manage AI risks in line with defined risk appetite.
  • Integrate AI risk management into Railpen’s broader governance landscape, supporting decision‑making and confidence in emerging technologies.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to project teams, ensuring responsible AI principles are applied consistently throughout the AI lifecycle.
  • Support the business with audit and assurance activities, planning, communication and proportionate, risk‑based decision making.
  • Coach and support colleagues to improve understanding of AI risks and governance expectations.
Qualifications
  • Strong experience in AI governance, risk management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, structured planning and risk‑based decision‑making skills.
  • Proactive, pragmatic mindset with a continuous improvement focus.
  • Experience navigating complexity, balancing innovation with control.
