The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) enhances and improves the health of millions of people through effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, supported by science and research.
Role SummaryThe MHRA is developing a Yellow Card Biobank to investigate the role of genetics in adverse drug reactions. After a successful three‑year pilot, the selected manager will oversee the scoping activities and establish the operating model for a long‑term biobank.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic lead of the long‑term Yellow Card Biobank model, delivering the business model for its operation.
- Direct diverse activities required for operation and governance, focusing on scientific considerations for genetic sequencing, data storage and linkage.
- Engage with senior stakeholders from UK healthcare organisations, industry and academia to develop national and international collaborations.
- Develop a long‑term financial model, sourcing and securing innovative external funding streams to ensure sustainability.
- Significant experience managing research projects, including governance aspects.
- Highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills with the credibility to build relationships and networks with key stakeholders.
- Flexible and adaptable leader, able to take on complex work and employ innovative problem‑solving.
- Visible leader with passion and enthusiasm, inspiring colleagues and stakeholders.
- Postgraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific/healthcare discipline, with knowledge of UK biomedical research regulations.
- Leadership experience managing teams of qualified staff and mentoring performance against objectives.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated experience of managing research project governance, risk, assurance, finance tracking and continuous improvement.
- Postgraduate degree or equivalent; knowledge of regulations and guidance in UK biomedical research.
