About

the School / Service

The Strategic Development & Delivery team works in partnership with stakeholders across the institution, combining our specialist expertise, sector knowledge and institutional awareness to support the delivery of our vision to 2028 and beyond.

This is a new Directorate for UEL and comprises four main portfolios:
Insights & Decision Support, Strategy & Performance, Portfolio & Benefits, and Change & Improvement. These four service areas will facilitate effective decision making, improve our staff and student experience, and deliver lasting positive change.

About the Job

We are seeking two experienced Business Analysts to join the Portfolio & Benefits team on a fixed-term basis.

The roles will provide hands‑on business analysis support to major strategic change programmes across the University, with an immediate and significant focus on the University’s Student Records System / Student Lifecycle Transformation Programme. This is one of UEL’s most strategically important transformation initiatives, delivering the implementation of Banner SaaS and supporting the transformation of key student lifecycle processes across the institution.

Working within a complex and fast‑paced programme environment, you will work with stakeholders, subject matter experts, project teams, technical teams and suppliers to understand current processes, define requirements, assess product fit, identify gaps, support design decisions, and ensure requirements are traceable through delivery, testing, readiness, benefits and handover.

You may support one or more student lifecycle capability areas, including Awards, Progression and Graduation, Curriculum, Admissions, Student Records, Enrolment, Student Finance, Integrations, Data Migration, Reporting, Testing, Readiness or Transition to business as usual.

Alongside programme delivery responsibilities, you will contribute to the continued development of business analysis capability across UEL. As a member of the Portfolio & Benefits team, you will support the use of practical BA standards, templates, reusable artefacts and knowledge‑sharing approaches that help strengthen UEL’s internal delivery capability.

Key responsibilities
  • Elicit, document and validate business, functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • Map current‑state and future‑state processes at a level appropriate to the audience.
  • Assess gaps between UEL processes and supplier / product capability, supporting decisions on configuration, workaround, process change or development.
  • Translate requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, test scenarios and decision‑support material.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, design decisions, testing, readiness, benefits and handover.
  • Support one or more SRS / Student Lifecycle capability areas, working across boundaries to identify dependencies, risks and design impacts.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops with subject matter experts, operational teams, project teams, technical teams and suppliers.
  • Communicate complex process, system and dependency issues clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Challenge assumptions constructively and elevate risks, issues or unresolved decisions appropriately.
  • Support testing and UAT by ensuring scenarios reflect real business processes, exceptions…
