About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF HAYLEA’S UNBEATABLE SPIRIT
Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. Where people use their optimism and talent to achieve more than anyone thought possible.
Nobody personifies this more than Haylea Navarro. Born with cerebral palsy and paralysed down one side since birth, Haylea has been gleefully proving people wrong ever since. Now a project officer, she brings faster broadband connectivity to Westminster businesses, boosting the economy for all. Throw in her gong at the 2020 London Apprenticeship Awards, and it’s clear for all to see just what can happen when you never give in.

The Role:

As a Health and Safety Officer, you too can make a powerful contribution. You will be joining our newly formed Corporate Health and Safety team. Together, we’re creating a modernised and resilient health and safety function that supports our ambition to be a world-class council built on trust, innovation and care. Help shape our direction and foster a collaborative, human-first approach to safety throughout Westminster.
This role entails supporting over 3,600 staff to manage complex health and safety risks and compliance obligations. You will assist with the administration of all Health and Safety training courses, including face-to-face and online training, e.g. First Aid, Manual Handling, Risk Assessments, Health & Safety induction, etc. This will include monitoring and managing DSE (Display Screen Equipment) training and self-assessment records including referrals for all WCC’s Directorates.

Plus, you’ll record training on the corporate Learning Management System (LMS). So that we can improve, you’ll collate information from feedback questionnaires and surveys. From policies to procedures, you'll help ensure our documentation remains well maintained, easy to navigate and fit for purpose.
We’d also like you to assist Directorates with risk assessments, inspections and audits. You will produce and submit incident and accident data, including Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDORs). Alongside this, you’ll help to produce Health and Safety performance reports on accidents, incidents, near misses and more.
This is your opportunity to transform health and safety at Westminster City Council. Your skills will be recognised, your ideas valued, and professional growth supported at every step.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

We’re looking for someone that brings service support experience, in Health and Safety, at a large, complex organisation. You’re familiar with working in the Public Sector and different departments in Health and Safety. From this, you will have gained an understanding of Health and Safety legislation and regulations, such as the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
It’s important that you can communicate clearly in English, including in writing, as this role involves conveying information effectively to all levels of the Council. As well as this, you’ll bring organisation and planning skills, with the ability to be diligent and accurate. You will be proficient at using MS Office Suite (incl. MS forms: Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
This role will involve working unsupervised in accordance with agreed work programmes. You’ll coordinate and deliver your own tasks and workload effectively to meet goals. As such, we’re looking for someone self-motivated, resilient, and level-headed.
A NEBOSH Certificate or Level 3 NVQ are useful for this role.
