Senior Consultant​/Consultant - Environmental Economist

Wood is currently recruiting for an (environmental)
Economist at either Consultant or Senior Consultant grade to work within our Environmental Policy and Economics team, based out of our offices in London, Bristol or Reading (hybrid option available).

Wood's Environmental Policy and Economics team is at the forefront of providing policy, economic and supporting technical and scientific advice on the development and implementation of national and international environmental policy, as well as formulating strategic responses to policy in the private sector. We provide consultancy services for national Governments, European Union institutions, international organisations (e.g. the United Nations and World Bank), industry associations and major global companies.

We have a reputation for robust and impartial analysis, meaning that our projects directly influence the development and improvement of environmental, economic, social and health outcomes in the UK, EU and worldwide.

This role is intended to support ongoing growth in our European environmental policy and economics business. The role will involve working on projects focused on one or more of the following policy areas: water, hazardous chemicals, industrial emissions, air quality, natural capital and ecosystem services, climate change, waste and resources, as well as related ad-hoc specialist areas. The role requires proven experience in applying economic theory and socio-economic techniques to environmental and other policies at national and/or international level, including cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analysis; ex-post evaluation; impact assessment; valuation of human health and social and environmental effects of policies; and assessing economic competitiveness. The role requires supporting, managing and delivering consultancy projects covering environmental economics and policy. You will be able to work independently to deliver consistently excellent technical work, and to supervise others in small technical teams.

The work involves multi-disciplinary teams, where your role will contribute to policy development, implementation and evaluation; cost-benefit analysis; use of socio-economic data; model development; information/ data collection and analysis; stakeholder consultation; report writing and verbal presentation.

We expect you will support the development of business with new and existing client and will be involved in and manage parts of the preparation of commercial and technical proposals.

Essential

Skills:

• A proven track record of overseeing, managing and delivering socio-economic projects concerning national and/or international environmental, health and/or safety policy (preferably in a consultancy context). An ability to deliver excellent quality work to clients while remaining commercially-focused
• Mathematical / quantitative analysis, data / statistical modelling skills
• Analytical / economic techniques such as: survey design and execution; market analysis; socio-economic analysis; regulatory impact assessment
• Familiarity with national and international sources of government and business statistics
• Demonstrable experience in standard techniques in policy development and implementation, including evaluation of technical / policy measures; cost-benefit analysis; data collection, validation and analysis; and stakeholder consultation
