About

The Role

We are seeking an ambitious, proactive and highly organised Business Manager to join the Chief Executive’s Office, working with one of our five Corporate Directors.

This is a unique role at the heart of the organisation, acting as the Corporate Director’s trusted support and helping them operate effectively across a large and complex portfolio. Working closely with them and their Executive Assistant, you will anticipate issues, manage competing priorities, provide strategic support and ensure they are fully prepared to lead, make decisions and respond to emerging challenges.

You will often act on the Corporate Director’s behalf, coordinating activity across the directorate, driving actions forward and ensuring priorities continue to progress. Success in this role comes from understanding the Corporate Director’s priorities, spotting what needs attention before being asked, and bringing together the right people and information to make things happen.

You will coordinate senior leadership meetings, prepare high-quality briefings, reports and presentations, oversee forward planning, and build effective relationships with senior colleagues, elected members and external partners. Business Managers also lead strategic projects, support budget planning and performance processes, and help navigate complex organisational issues, playing a pivotal role in delivering the Council’s priorities for residents and communities.

About The Team

The Chief Executive’s Office is at the heart of the organisation, supporting the Chief Executive and leadership team and enabling effective decision‑making across the Council. Working alongside Corporate Directors, Executive Assistants, other Business Managers and corporate services, the team coordinates, prepares, and advises, helping teams navigate decision making and dealing with the unexpected. This collaborative environment offers exposure to a wide range of high‑profile projects and provides an excellent opportunity to influence outcomes that make a real difference to local communities.

About You

You will be a great communicator with strong judgement, analytical thinking and organisational skills. Comfortable working in a fast‑paced and politically sensitive environment, you will have strong experience of supporting senior leaders in an organisation, managing competing priorities and building effective relationships.

You will be proactive and solution‑focused, able to anticipate issues, spot what needs attention before being asked, and use your judgement to move things forward. You will be confident translating complex information into clear briefings, presentations and recommendations, and bringing together the right people to resolve challenges and deliver results.
