Senior Buyer - Heavyside

London | Up to £100k plus benefits

Ready to make your mark? Help shape the future of a growing DIY retailer and builders' merchant!

Are you a commercially savvy Buyer who loves spotting opportunities, negotiating great deals and turning category strategy into real business results? Want a role where your ideas count, your decisions make a difference and you can genuinely influence how a business moves forward?

We're looking for a Buyer - Heavyside to join Builder Depot at an exciting time of transformation. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a key category, drive performance and help shape the future of the business across both its branches and online channels.

You might already be buying within a builders' merchant or the wider construction sector, or you could be bringing your experience from DIY, home improvement, retail or another environment. What matters most is your commercial mindset, confidence with data and ability to build strong relationships.

What will you be getting stuck into?

· Own your category:
Develop and deliver a buying strategy that drives sales, margin and profitability while keeping trade customers front and centre.

· Make the numbers work:
Get under the skin of sales, margin, stock and customer data to spot opportunities, make informed decisions and improve performance.

· Negotiate like a pro:
Build strong supplier partnerships, secure competitive pricing and terms, and maximise returns through effective supplier rebate agreements.

· Get the range right:
Make sure the product offering delivers the right mix of quality, availability and value for customers.

· Keep stock in check:
Improve stock turn, manage availability and reduce excess or obsolete stock, helping the business make the most of its working capital.

· Stay one step ahead:
Keep an eye on customer needs, market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities for growth.

· Bring people together:
Work closely with branch managers, Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations and senior stakeholders to turn ideas into action.

· Find smarter ways of working:
Challenge the status quo, streamline processes and embrace data and AI tools to improve analysis, efficiency and decision-making.

What are we looking for?

We're after someone who combines strong commercial instincts with a hands-on, can-do attitude. You'll be confident taking ownership, comfortable challenging the way things are done and motivated by making a tangible difference.

You'll ideally bring:

· Buying or category management experience within a B2B, retail, DIY, home improvement, trade or related environment.

· A strong understanding of sales, margin, pricing, stock and overall category profitability.

· Proven negotiation skills, including managing supplier relationships, commercial terms and rebate agreements.

· Strong Excel skills and the confidence to turn data into meaningful commercial decisions.

· An interest in using AI and digital tools to work smarter and improve everyday processes.

· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. This is a flat structure, so you'll be working directly with branch managers and senior leaders, making the ability to influence and collaborate essential.

· A proactive, organised approach and the confidence to thrive in a fast-moving business where change brings opportunity.

Experience in heavyside or a builders' merchant would be a bonus, but it's not essential. If you have the right buying experience, commercial drive and appetite to learn, we'd love to hear from you.

The business is on an exciting journey, investing in better systems, technology, data and AI to improve the customer experience, simplify processes and support long-term growth.

This isn't a role where you'll simply maintain the status quo. You'll have the opportunity to influence decisions, work closely with senior stakeholders and help shape how the Heavyside category develops as the business continues to evolve.

If you're looking for your next challenge, enjoy making commercially smart decisions and want to see the impact of your work, this could be the perfect move.
