COWI is looking for a Community Engagement Coordinator to expand its team of External and Communications professionals. As Communities Coordinator, you will work as part of a team to deliver compelling community engagement campaigns for the company’s infrastructure clients – including the Lower Thames Crossing, one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects. COWI and the Lower Thames Crossing team put the communities they affect at the heart of what they do.
- Work with the Communities Lead to integrate community priorities into the design, construction, and communications of projects, you will work closely with project’s neighbours and local organisations such as Parish Councils, educational institutions, forums, and advocacy groups.
- Monitor community sentiment and provide intelligence and briefings to the Communities Lead and External Affairs team ahead of key engagements.
- Support direct engagement with challenging stakeholders by accompanying the External Affairs team, clients and contractors, arranging pre-briefings, ensuring teams are fully informed to respond to queries, recording actions in the CRM, and following up to ensure commitments are delivered.
- Assist in managing and holding account the three Main Works Contractors’ Community Engagement leads, ensuring compliance with client commitments and planning requirements.
- Review contractors’ engagement plans, public materials, and correspondence to ensure clarity, usefulness, quality, and alignment with National Highways and project tone of voice.
- Help deliver community engagement events (e.g. drop-in sessions) by planning briefings, staffing, venues, materials, attending events, and documenting outcomes and actions.

- Experience of managing and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience of engaging the public on development proposals or construction projects – such as for new infrastructure, housing or other built environment projects
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and to identify, develop and maintain a strong network with those stakeholders.
- Effective communication capabilities that assist in planning work, respecting tight timelines and adjusting to changing scenarios.
- Well organized, ability to plan and deliver a programme of events/activities.
- Skilled in working with, briefing colleagues ahead of external meetings.
