Business Development Director Summary
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Trainee to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to start a career in estimating and develop a strong foundation in cost analysis, project bidding, and resource management. As an Estimating Coordinator, you will work closely with our experienced estimators and wider business development team to learn and assist in the preparation of cost estimates for construction projects.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Assist with Estimate Preparation – Support the team in collecting data, reviewing asset lists/drawings, and calculating material, labour, and equipment costs to produce accurate project estimates.
- Learn Cost Estimating Tools – Familiarise yourself with industry-standard software and company-specific tools for cost estimation and take part in the preparation of bid proposals.
- Data Collection & Analysis – Assist in gathering and analysing data, including historical cost data, subcontractor quotes, and internal labour rates, to ensure the accuracy of estimates.
- Review Project Specifications – Help in reviewing project plans, specifications, and scope of work to identify key components for cost estimation.
- Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination – Work with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information, and assist in comparing quotes and making recommendations.
- Documentation and Reporting – Maintain accurate records and files of project estimates and related documentation.
- Support Estimating Team – Provide general administrative and technical support to the estimating team, ensuring that deadlines and project requirements are met.
- Continuous Learning – Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge in construction estimating, cost analysis, and industry practices.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous deadlines.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Knowledge of estimating software.
- Eagerness to learn and develop existing skills.
- Team-oriented and collaborative mindset.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to adapt to new challenges and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Structured training and mentoring from experienced professionals.
- Exposure to a wide range of FM contracts across sectors, including data centres, education, healthcare, and commercial buildings.
- Career progression into Estimating, Business Development, Bid Management, or Commercial roles.
