Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Building Safety Manager to join its Building Safety Team, based at 160 Tooley Street, SE1. This interim role runs from 29 June 2026 at £400–£450 per day umbrella, or up to £500 for the right candidate.
Working within the Private Sector Building Safety Programme in partnership with MHCLG, you will identify high and medium‑rise private residential buildings in Southwark with potentially unsafe cladding or fire safety defects, supporting building owners to safeguard residents and progress remedial works.
Key responsibilities- Desktop reviews of privately owned high and medium‑rise buildings.
- Developing a risk‑based inspection programme.
- Reviewing EWS data, FRAEW reports and associated documents.
- Categorising buildings by risk and referring enforcement actions accordingly.
- Engaging with building proprietors on cladding materials, interim safety measures and remediation timelines.
- Liaising with the local Fire and Rescue Service and MHCLG.
The working pattern is three days on‑site conducting building inspections and two days in the office for reporting and administration.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Building Surveying or a related field.
- At least five years’ experience in Building Safety, Fire Safety or Building Surveying.
- Experience of HHSRS surveys.
- Solid knowledge of the Building Regulations 2010, Housing Act 2004, Building Safety Act 2022, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.
