About the Role
A Senior Quantity Surveyor is an experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures. They minimise project costs and enhance value for money while achieving required standards and quality. Typically a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards membership), and they have experience managing a small team of commercial staff while mentoring others toward professional qualification.
Responsibilities- Order information and systematically checks data.
- Maximise digital opportunities.
- NEC Option E Administration.
- Compile applications for payment, manage contractual communications, and ensure consistent and contemporaneous records.
- Agree on final account for the scheme with the Client, close out change management on the CEMAR system, and prepare and negotiate final account settlement following interim procedures.
- Review weekly, monthly, and section programmes of works.
- Assist with the preparation of delay and disruption programme.
- Monitor subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately.
- Analyse commercial progress and report to senior project staff.
- Manage commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders for their area of responsibility.
- Undertake constructability analyses using construction programmes.
- Prepare procurement programme and help develop the strategy.
- Analyse rates & prices, agree variations and/or compensation events as required.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate claims when required.
- Prepare internal reports, commercial progress, and financial reconciliation.
- Prepare and present CVR for the London Street and NHS Mint Wing scheme.
- Maintain a Personal Development Plan.
- Manage HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports (PDRs, etc.).
- Actively support the development of others, including professional mentoring.
- Produce plans for the team to achieve goals and aspirations.
- Support recruitment of lower grades.
- Ideally a BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
- Experience in Quantity Surveying within Rail, Construction, or Civil Engineering.
- Strong experience in final account closure and client negotiation.
- Line management experience.
- Commercial management experience.
- Good knowledge of and ability to develop knowledge of GMCEs, BMS, and other governance.
- Strong communication and teamwork ability.
- Achievement focus (achieving results).
