Housing Safety Surveyor Package £48,000 - £52,000 Excellent Benefits Hybrid Working | Home, Office & Resident Visits (Oxfordshire) Shape the Future of Resident Safety An ambitious and forward-thinking housing provider is seeking a Housing Safety Surveyor to play a pivotal role in protecting residents and ensuring homes remain safe, healthy and compliant. This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation investing heavily in housing safety, compliance and resident wellbeing.
Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, you will lead on the identification, assessment and management of housing-related risks across a diverse housing portfolio, with a particular focus on HHSRS, Damp & Mould, Awaab's Law compliance and wider resident safety issues. This is far more than a traditional Damp & Mould role. You will act as the organisation's specialist advisor on housing safety matters, influencing service delivery, driving compliance and helping shape a proactive approach to risk management that puts residents first.
What You'll Be Doing As Housing Safety Surveyor, you will be responsible for investigating and managing a wide range of housing safety risks, ensuring residents are protected whilst supporting the organisation's legal and regulatory obligations. Your responsibilities will include:
Housing Safety Inspections & Risk Assessment Undertaking detailed property inspections relating to Damp & Mould, HHSRS hazards and wider housing safety concerns. Assessing risks associated with fire safety, structural defects, excess cold, electrical hazards, hygiene issues and falls risks. Conducting HHSRS assessments and determining hazard categories. Producing robust technical reports and recommendations to reduce risk and improve living conditions. Awaab's Law & Damp & Mould Compliance Managing housing safety cases in line with statutory response times.
Carrying out detailed investigations and root cause analysis. Recommending and monitoring remedial works through to completion. Ensuring accurate records and compliance evidence are maintained. Supporting organisational readiness for evolving regulatory requirements. Resident Engagement & Safeguarding Working directly with residents, often in sensitive situations. Explaining technical findings clearly and compassionately. Identifying vulnerabilities and escalating safeguarding concerns where appropriate. Supporting positive outcomes and enhancing resident satisfaction.
Technical Leadership Acting as the subject-matter expert on housing safety matters. Providing specialist advice to housing, repairs, property services and contractor teams. Supporting decision-making on complex technical and compliance issues. Promoting best practice and driving continuous improvement. Assurance & Governance Monitoring contractor performance and quality of completed works. Supporting investigations, complaints and Housing Ombudsman enquiries. Producing performance data and compliance reports.
Contributing to organisational assurance, audit activity and strategic reporting. What We're Looking For We are keen to speak with experienced surveyors, housing safety professionals, building surveyors or compliance specialists with a passion for resident safety and regulatory excellence. Essential Experience Housing inspections and property assessments. Damp & Mould investigations and diagnosis. Residential building defects and maintenance. Risk assessment and report writing.
Managing contractors and remedial works. Working with residents and vulnerable customers. Understanding of housing legislation and regulatory compliance. Essential Knowledge Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS). Housing Act 2004. Awaab's Law and emerging compliance requirements. Building construction and defect diagnosis. Damp & Mould causes and solutions. Resident safeguarding and vulnerability considerations. Qualifications NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification) OR Building Surveying qualification with a willingness to obtain a recognised Health & Safety qualification.
Full UK Driving Licence. Desirable HHSRS Practitioner qualification. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification. Knowledge of the Building Safety Act and Consumer Standards.
