About the role

Balfour Beatty has another splendid opportunity for an Package Manager / Sub Agent to join our amazing Major Projects team to work at our iconic
Old Oak Common
station development in North-West London.

HS2’s new c. £1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK’s best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide high speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.

Construction of the iconic station will support up to 65,000 jobs and 25,000 homes in the local area, helping kick-start one of Britain’s largest regeneration projects and transforming the former railway and industrial area. A new public park part of the Urban Realm, the external space of the Station, will also be situated to the west of the station, which will act as a green space that welcomes visitors to Old Oak Common and provide a new focal point for the growing community.

At peak of construction, the project will employ a direct management team of 140 and a wider workforce of approximately 2,500.

What you'll be doing
  • Managing a site team, including subcontractors, suppliers and 3rd parties, including implementation of the health, safety, environmental and quality standards,
  • Develop construction methodology, programme and assist design development where applicable. Prepare for the delivery of the works, including resources, procurement, consents, and pre start documentation.
  • Manage, supervise, train and mentor the site team to enable them to optimise their work contribution.
  • Review contractual agreements and develop detailed site specific programmes and forecast budgets, assess actual programme and productivity achieved and review weekly, taking action where appropriate, and reporting any changes to the Senior Package Manager and Commercial team.
  • Be fully conversant with subcontractor’s contract conditions
  • Communicate to the Senior Package Manager, QA and Commercial teams non-conformances and any instructions received from the client / designer / RE’s staff.
Who we're looking for
  • HND/Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge of highways and utility construction techniques, sequencing and best practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working to and implementing construction contracts.
  • Ability to use initiative based on engineering and practical experience.
  • Capable of working independently and proactively to progress works but also skilled at working collaboratively with other integrated team members and external stakeholders for the overall benefit of the project.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Document Control Systems, Auto CAD).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adjust communication style to suite receiver.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management.
