PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £42,000 - £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OFTHE ROLE
The Casting Director supports the Head of Casting and collaborates closely with the in‑house casting team to deliver high‑quality casting across BBC Studios’ portfolio of scripted productions.
The role is central to identifying, booking and championing talent across a broad range of shows, ensuring that every production is cast with authenticity, creative excellence and a commitment to representing the full diversity of our audiences.

You will work closely with the Head of Casting and a highly skilled team dedicated to ensuring that our programmes authentically reflect the diversity of the audiences we serve.
This is an opportunity to influence casting at scale, help shape standout creative work, and play a meaningful role in developing talent and securing performers who elevate our scripted output both in the UK and internationally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT- Identify, source and develop talent across the department’s scripted output, drafting and circulating breakdowns as well as leading and coordinating casting sessions to secure the strongest performers.
- Support the Head of Casting in securing top‑tier talent that elevates programmes, drives audience engagement and underpins BBC Studios’ international strategy.
- Negotiate talent fees and handle complex agent negotiations while managing strong, ongoing relationships with agents, performers and internal production teams.
- Manage a casting budget effectively.
- Oversee Casting Assistants’ workload while contributing to their ongoing skills development and professional growth.
- Champion an inclusive casting approach that ensures on‑screen representation authentically reflects diverse audiences and supports wider organisational objectives.
- Demonstrated passion for scripted drama with a clear eye for compelling performance, supported by substantial Casting Director–level experience in scripted TV or film.
- Extensive casting expertise and a broad, current knowledge of UK actors and agents, underpinned by strong, well‑established industry relationships.
- Solid understanding and interest in drama production processes, and the practicalities of working within active production environments.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships across creative and production teams.
- Commitment to discovering new and emerging talent, particularly from under‑represented communities, through outreach, open calls and wider industry engagement.
- Strong understanding of diversity and inclusion as it relates to casting practice and authentic on‑screen representation.
- Exposure to international casting or casting for productions with global distribution ambitions.
- Awareness of industry trends and developing talent pipelines.
- Familiarity with new or emerging casting technologies, databases or digital tools.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring junior team members.
