DescriptionAbout the role
As Senior Stage Technician, you will play a key role in the delivery of all technical aspects of the Company’s performances, rehearsals, productions, and events, supporting new productions and revivals at each stage of the production process, from stores to stage. Working collaboratively with team members and co-workers on site, you will supervise casual Stage Technicians to deliver all work to a high standard and maintain a safe system of work.

Your main responsibilities as Senior Stage Technician will include:
- Lead and participate in the preparation, fit-up, operation, and strike of productions, rehearsals, and events.
- Assist in the maintenance, inspection, and testing of stage equipment, rigging systems, automation equipment, and associated infrastructure.
- Execute performance cues accurately and consistently, ensuring the safe and smooth running of productions.
- Operate manual and counterweight flying systems in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.
- Support the technical delivery of touring productions, including creation of truck packs, loading, unloading, transportation, installation, and operation of equipment.
- Maintain strong awareness and understanding of the technical schedule and preparation times for each production and show run, based on key priorities, technical capability, transport and logistics, safety requirements and staff allocation.
- Support the Stage Technicians, casual stage crew and Apprentices through clear direction, team briefings, day‑to‑day supervision, and coaching where needed.
- Foster a strong safety culture, strong team ethic and collaborative working style, leading by example.
- Significant professional experience as a Stage Technician for live theatre, opera, ballet, or dance, with a strong ability to maintain positive working relations with team members, creatives, local stage crew and the Artistic Ensemble.
- Experience of the technical stage requirements during rehearsal and performance, including proven skills in:
- Operating counterweight flying systems
- Operating and/or programming stage automation systems
- Ability to call, execute, and follow performance cue sequences accurately under pressure
- Good working knowledge of Health and Safety requirements for set construction and backstage working, with relevant certifications (such as forklift, IPAF, PASMA and IOSH).
- Ability to undertake or assist set maintenance when needed, with good carpentry skills
- A proactive problem‑solving approach and ability to troubleshoot when required, with a track record in delivering consistent quality work, while working with a variable workflow.
