Horticultural Content Creator (up to £34,000)
12 month fixed term contract
At Immediate, we’re home to some of the biggest and most loved consumer brands in the UK, including Radio Times, Good Food, Gardeners’ World and History Extra. Our trusted, quality content reaches millions of people a month across digital, print, video, podcasts, apps and live events.
We’re the destination for people looking to get more from the things they love. We help inspire them; deepening their knowledge, skills and fuelling their passions, to enjoy more of what life has to offer.
Whether it’s the big things, or the little things; from reaching fitness goals to savouring good food, cultivating outdoor, or indoor, spaces, or enjoying the latest TV sensation with loved ones – we help bring our audiences joy.
About the roleAs a Horticultural Content Creator, you will be a dedicated, skilled gardener who is also a confident creator across both the written word and video — someone who can produce two to three written pieces a week and appear on camera, moving fluently between a magazine feature, a web guide and a You Tube script without sacrificing accuracy, depth or craft.
Above all, it's a role for someone for whom gardening is a genuine vocation: not a subject they cover, but something they do. That kind of expertise comes only from years of hands‑on experience — and it's what makes every piece, written or filmed, worth the audience's time.
We expect a strong understanding and curiosity about AI's role in the future of publishing and the opportunities it offers businesses and audiences alike. AI is still evolving — you won't have all the answers, but an open mind and enthusiasm for the possible are a must. Immediate believes in applying AI responsibly and impactfully to enhance our content and products, and is committed to upskilling all staff to futureproof both the business and our people's careers.
Asa Horticultural Content Creator, you will:
Written content
- Produce two to three pieces of horticultural content per week across print, digital and off-platform channels — practical guides, seasonal advice, plant profiles, how-tos and news-led pieces — adapting tone, depth and format for audiences from the seasoned exhibitor to the first-time windowsill grower.
- Contribute longer-form magazine features under the editor’s direction, reflecting the depth the GW print audience expects.
- Produce strong written assets to accompany video output — web articles, summaries and guides — supporting the brand’s multiplatform model.
- Plan, script and present horticultural video for You Tube and social, bringing practical authority and a warm, credible on-camera presence.
- Mine Gardeners' World's extensive content archive for fresh, engaging video formats.
- Plan written and video output together so the two reinforce each other rather than duplicate effort.
- Contribute to the Gardeners' World podcast, particularly future team-based formats, and help develop stories, guests and themes that work across podcast and print in collaboration with the podcast editor.
- Work closely with the editorial team to plan and deliver content against seasonal and strategic priorities, and help develop new formats that resonate with both established and newer audiences.
- Represent the Gardeners' World voice consistently across all output, in line with editorial guidelines and brand values.
- Horticultural training to Level 3 or equivalent (e.g. RHS Level 3, a relevant degree or demonstrably equivalent practical qualification).
- Extensive practical gardening experience — the kind immediately evident in the specificity of the work.
- Strong, versatile writing skills, with a portfolio showing confident writing for both print and digital, produced consistently and at volume without sacrificing craft.
- A natural editorial thinker who understands the difference between a magazine feature, a web guide and a social caption, and adapts voice accordingly.
- Confidence on camera, or clear evidence of growing into it — comfortable presenting, being coached and developing a presenter voice.
