The Design Museum’s vision is a world in which design enables this planet and its inhabitants to thrive. Future Observatory is the museum’s national programme for design research and the green transition, delivered in partnership with UKRI’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The programme funds, commissions and curates cutting-edge design research, making it accessible and engaging for broad audiences.

We are now seeking a Future Observatory Content Officer to support the delivery of the programme’s digital communications and content activity, helping to grow engagement across social media, the website and digital channels.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative content professional to develop engaging digital content that communicates innovative design research, sustainability themes and programme activity to audiences ranging from researchers and policymakers to designers and the wider public.

About the role

The Future Observatory Content Officer supports the day-to-day delivery of the programme’s social media, website and digital communications activity, with a focus on content creation, audience engagement and digital storytelling.

Working closely with the Future Observatory Community Manager and colleagues across the museum, you will contribute to the planning, production and publishing of digital content that expands the programme’s reach while ensuring a consistent, engaging and accessible online presence.

Key areas of focus include:
  • Creating and publishing digital content across social media, the website and newsletters, including photography, video, graphics and written content.
  • Translating complex design research, sustainability themes and academic insights into engaging and accessible content for a variety of audiences.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of communications activity for research projects, exhibitions, displays, events and partnerships.
  • Working with researchers, partners and museum colleagues to identify stories and opportunities for digital engagement and content development.
  • Monitoring audience engagement, evaluating digital performance and helping to identify emerging trends and opportunities across digital channels.
About you

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Experience creating content for social media, websites or newsletters within a cultural, research, higher education or similar environment.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, engaging and accessible way.
  • Strong content creation and design skills, with experience producing visual and multimedia content for digital channels.
  • A good understanding of social media platforms, digital communications and audience engagement, particularly Instagram and Linked In.
  • Strong organisational, communication and collaborative skills, alongside an interest in design, sustainability, architecture or design research.
