Catalogue Editor (Unlocking Our Sound Heritage) (fixed term for 3 years) Salary £28,400 - £31,980 pa including London Weighting (Depending on performance and experience)

London Metropolitan Archives is looking for a Catalogue Editor to contribute to its work as a regional hub of the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage project. Unlocking Our Sound Heritage is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is led by the British Library in conjunction with 10 national and regional partners across the UK.

Unlocking Our Sound Heritage will digitally preserve almost half a million endangered sound recordings from across the UK and make 100,000 available online, transforming the visibility of sound archive collections in the process. London Metropolitan Archives is the hub for London. Over three years, it will digitise 5,000 physical sound items, from its own collections, and from other collections in the London region.

The digitised material will then be used as part of innovative learning and outreach activities. London Metropolitan Archives is one of 10 hubs recruiting project staff in Aberystwyth, Belfast, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, London, Leicester, Manchester, Newcastle and Norwich during 2018.

The post holder will create and amend catalogue records and other metadata for archive sound recordings, support rights clearance activities and the day to day digital data workflows of the project. Applicants will have a relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent and proven experience in cataloguing archive, library or museum collections.

The ability to work to target and under pressure both independently and in a team is essential. Knowledge of sound archives and an interest in recorded sound would be an advantage. Informal enquiries to Laurence Ward, Head of Digital Services,  laure (link sends e-mail)
