Location: Greater London

As Strategic Communications Officer, you'll help turn Global Witness's investigations, campaigns and expertise into compelling stories that cut through and make an impact. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you'll support proactive and reactive media work across a wide range of issues - from developing strong story angles and drafting press materials, to pitching to journalists, supporting spokespeople and responding to breaking news.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll have real responsibility and the opportunity to see your work contribute directly to Global Witness's campaigning and organisational goals. You'll help shape media plans, identify opportunities in the news agenda, build relationships with journalists and support the day-to-day running of our press office. You'll also play an important role in helping us learn from and improve our media work, ensuring our communications are timely, strategic and reach the audiences who can help create change.

  • Please can you outline how your skills and experience would enable you to succeed in this role?
  • Can you give an example of a time when you delivered impactful media coverage that supported an organisation's strategic aims? What was the objective, what process did you follow, and what was the outcome?

At Global Witness, we are committed to making our recruitment process accessible to everyone. If you require any adjustments or support during the application or interview stages, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We want to ensure the process is an inclusive and supportive experience.

Equality and diversity We would appreciate your participation in completing our Equality and Diversity Monitoring Form. Global Witness wants to meet the aims and commitments set out in its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy. This includes not discriminating under the Equality Act 2010 and building an accurate picture of the make-up of the workforce and candidates in encouraging equality and diversity.

You're an experienced communications, media, journalism or PR professional who knows what makes a story stand out. You have excellent writing and editing skills and can turn complex information into clear, accessible and compelling content. You're confident pitching to journalists, developing creative media angles and building strong relationships, while also being comfortable responding quickly and thoughtfully when the news agenda changes.

You're highly organised, collaborative and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You bring curiosity, sound judgement and a proactive approach, and you're someone who enjoys working with others to turn ideas into impactful communications. You'll share Global Witness's commitment to challenging powerful interests, creating meaningful change and building a more inclusive and equitable world.

Global Witness has a talented team of people worldwide with offices in London, Washington DC and Brussels. We aim to be a diverse and inclusive place to work. We value new perspectives, original ideas and different ways of working. We believe that diverse views and experiences improve the way we do our work. We do our best to make our jobs accessible to all regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or identity.

  • We offer an excellent benefits package including a competitive salary and 20 days annual leave (excl. Bank Holidays).
  • We also offer healthcare insurance and policies to support you during key life events.
  • We have formalised our shorter working week where everyone works 30 hours Monday to Thursday, with Friday off with no impact on full time salary.
  • We operate a hybrid working model which requires at least 2 days in the office.
