  • On occasion, commission and supervise daily news items and make final calls on videos and posts when required.
  • Pitch ideas for social videos, in line with audience needs and editorial priorities
  • Review and edit scripts and video ensuring accuracy, quality and editorial standards and giving clear, constructive feedback
  • Build strong relationships with senior newsroom stakeholders and external partners
  • Make independent editorial decisions on story treatment, structure, and angles
  • Maintain exceptional standards of video verification, fact-checking and contextual accuracy across all published content to ensure it meets the Guardian's editorial guidelines
  • Step in to refine or fix pieces as required before publication
  • Make confident editorial decisions on verification, copyright and legal risk, working with legal and rights teams where required
  • Use analytics to evaluate performance and refine social video strategy
  • Help establish and maintain best practice, visual style, and tone of voice for social promotion, posts and videos
About you
  • Deep understanding of how to make text, photos, graphics and video work together on social media
  • Proven track record of producing, shooting and editing videos for social media, with authoritative knowledge of industry-standard video equipment and post-production software.
  • Strong writing skills with a flair for summarising long, complex information into engaging and concise copy
  • Ability to find and pitch original story ideas and concepts, with a demonstrable track record of creative and engaging storytelling across social platforms
  • Demonstrable experience of working with all major social platforms, underpinned by a nuanced understanding of each platform's unique ecosystem, and how to optimise content performance for each platform
  • Deep understanding of the specific needs of social media audiences
  • Familiarity with content management systems and analytics of all major social media platforms
  • Strong design skills with ability to produce static social content using Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
  • Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role.
