Press Officer About Money Saving Expert (MSE) is the UK’s largest consumer website, providing free, independent and editorially led help to millions of people looking to save money. Our mission is simple: to help people cut their bills and achieve financial justice. Around 12 million people visit MSE each month, while more than nine million subscribers receive our weekly email, packed with exclusive deals, tips, and guides.
What makes MSE distinctive is our Editorial Code, which underpins everything we do. Whatever your role, you will champion the consumer. If you are motivated by our mission and want to make a practical difference to people’s financial lives, MSE could be the right next step for you.
About the role MSE’s Press Team helps ensure consumers across the UK can access MSE’s trusted personal-finance guidance. We generate more than 2,000 pieces of media coverage each month, using press activity to help people understand their rights, make informed financial decisions, and improve their financial wellbeing. As Press Officer, you will support a busy press office across print, digital and broadcast media.
You will help respond to the news agenda, develop proactive media opportunities, and amplify MSE’s editorial work, investigations, and campaigns. This is an early-career role, suited to a recent graduate or someone in their second role who is looking to build hands‑on experience in a high‑profile national press office. Reporting to the PR Manager, you will be supported to develop your media judgment, writing, journalist relationships and understanding of consumer issues.
you’ll spend your day:
- Supporting the running of a busy, reactive press office by managing and responding to enquiries from print, digital, and broadcast media.
- Drafting press releases, media lines and reactive comments in response to consumer issues in the news.
- Monitoring the media landscape to identify proactive opportunities for MSE to provide comment.
- Maintaining media distribution lists and building strong working relationships with journalists.
- Supporting MSE’s 11 spokespeople, including Martin Lewis, to identify and prepare for relevant media opportunities, working with the PR Manager on high-profile or complex requests.
- Working closely with the News, Campaigns and Social teams to coordinate and amplify investigations, editorial content, and campaigning activity.
- Keeping up to date with PR best practice, ethics and developments in the media landscape.
- A genuine interest in a career in public relations and the UK media landscape. You will likely read, watch, or listen to a broad range of news content each day.
- Curiosity about the changing ways people discover news and information, including influencers, podcasts, digital‑first broadcasters and other emerging media channels, and an interest in how MSE could use these to reach new audiences.
- Enthusiasm for consumer issues and personal finance, and motivation to champion consumers.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, accurate and engaging copy.
- Good judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to scrutinise information carefully before communicating it externally.
- Confidence communicating with journalists, spokespeople and colleagues at all levels of the business.
- An understanding of how PR can support wider campaigning, reputation, and brand objectives.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks, work to tight deadlines and adapt calmly as priorities change.
- A collaborative, can‑do approach, with a willingness to learn, bring ideas and take ownership of your professional development.
- Knowledge of financial services or personal finance.
- An understanding of…
