We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, qualified and GDC registered Band 6 Dental Technician to work within our Removable appliance dental team. To undertake the duties of a Band 6 Specialist Dental Technician.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic team player to join our removable laboratory. Candidates should have experience making removable dental appliances. To undertake the duties of a Band 6 Specialist Dental Technician to clinical prescription producing dental technical restorations related to removable prosthodontics.

The Dental Institute comprises three components:
The Dental Hospital of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, The Dental Hospital of King's NHS Foundation Trust, King's College London Dental Institute. The Institute represents a significant management challenge as its activities cross both the NHS and the University sector. responsibilities

Professional / Clinical responsibilities:
The construction of a range of removable appliances for clinical staff, postgraduate students and undergraduate students. To be familiar with CAD/CAM technology and its current role within dental technology. To be able to demonstrate specific skills i.e. high levels of dexterity and coordination. To be able to scan and design removable appliances for periods of intense prolonged concentration using VDU equipment, whereby there may be a requirement for sitting in a restricted position for a substantial portion of time.

Prioritise their own workload including planning for appliances and formulating adjustments where necessary. This will involve ensuring all appointment dates are met and the keeping of up‑to‑date records of all work allocated using correct laboratory protocols. All work to be produced in line with Medical Devices Regulations. Ability to communicate with staff and students regarding the design and prescription of conventional removable appliances.

This will also mean spending time on clinics with consultants and postgraduate clinics unsupervised and may involve communicating with patients regarding appliance design with occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Assist with the routine day to day running of the laboratory and assist clinical and nursing staff with collection of completed work.
