Overview
Locum Consultant Orthodontist, fixed-term 12-month, part-time 0.6 WTE at King s College Dental Institute, Denmark Hill and Queen Mary s Hospital, Sidcup, part of King s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post arises due to retirement and session reductions among consultants and offers an opportunity to join a large, experienced team of 14 consultants across both sites. The service provides specialist hospital-based orthodontic care, managing approximately 2,700 new referrals and 15,000 outpatient attendances per year.
It supports multidisciplinary clinics including orthognathic, hypodontia, orthodontic-restorative, paediatric-oral surgery, and sleep apnoea clinics, with strong clinical facilities and a dental nursing team on both sites. The role includes orthodontic teaching and training of King s College London undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, and HEE StR & Post CCST registrars, with involvement in ongoing service development in a collaborative environment.

Together with colleagues, provide high-quality care to patients, covering all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
Provide clinical supervision of junior dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
Lead or contribute to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and participate in CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
Fulfil outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group s management team where part of the service structure.
Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths.
Undertake activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
Work with clinical and other professional colleagues to maintain staff productivity and job satisfaction; may include involvement in the appraisal of peers and/or junior colleagues.
Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
Prepare for and undertake protective interventions in line with evidence-based practice and patient safety.

Take an active role in formulating, implementing and monitoring the Care Group s Business Plan. Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s). Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty, fostering projects and ensuring ongoing post-qualification professional education and training.
