The London Port Health Authority (LPHA) is integral to the work of the City of London Corporation. Covering 94 miles of the River Thames, we are one of the largest authorities of its kind in the EU, and we’re tasked with all port health matters including food and feed imports, infectious disease control, shellfish sampling, ship sanitation and a wide variety of public and animal health controls.

Our work is essential to the wellbeing of London’s and the UK’s communities – and as Assistant Director, you’ll be at the heart of this

Leading a high-performing team, we’ll look to you to lead, develop and manage the services of the LPHA. With a focus on the major ports of London Gateway and Tilbury, as well as the Launch Service, you’ll see to it that our resources are being used as efficiently and effectively as possible, and you’ll ensure we’re meeting local, national and international priorities.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping and delivering a wide ranging regulatory agenda, from implementing relevant legislation and authorising enforcement actions, through to handling the impacts of the UK’s closer relationship with the EU. We are therefore seeking a proactive and adaptable professional who thrives on challenge and enjoys building strong, effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Ideally you should have experience in the regulatory sectors and an understanding of Port Health and imported food controls would be helpful.

In return, we can offer you a generous benefits package plus a fascinating career path.

Closing date: 23:59pm Monday 21st September 2026

Provisional Interview date: 14/10/2026

The City of London Corporation is committed to Equal Opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
