Outland operates to realise ground breaking works across a diversity of fields centered around high end construction and fitout. Specialising in ultra-prime residential, we work across a diversity of roles from initial feasibility and concept through to commissioning and post delivery. We take a holistic approach to the realisation of projects with our work, spanning a broad spectrum of scales and disciplines, from the overall project management of ground breaking construction projects down to the design and creation of singular bespoke fitout items.
These include custom interiors, furniture, lighting, kinetic elements and artworks, utilising both traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology.
Within Outland is a cross-disciplinary design and delivery group primarily responsible for turning complex, bespoke ideas into built reality. It sits at the intersection of design, engineering, fabrication, procurement, and production, and is brought in where projects involve high technical risk, non-standard or complex construction; or more widely where there is opportunity to add value through taking an in-house approach. The team takes ownership of certain design-to-delivery items that fall outside of or are slow and/or high risk in conventional architectural/construction workflows - developing technical solutions, undertaking diverse problem solving, progressing design and delivering bespoke production.
We have recently expanded into a second premises (London Fields) to act as a production space allowing greater in-house production, prototyping, and sampling as an extension of this work.
We are growing our team to match increasing demand and seek an experienced and versatile multidisciplinary or architectural designer and coordinator to enhance our capacity across design resolution, coordination and realisation.
Responsibilities1. Architectural, furniture and fitout design coordination
- Act as a project specific lead within the Outland production group, assigned to certain projects to act as the go-to for project related design issue resolution, design coordination and delivery of production items.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors and suppliers, ensuring solutions are rigorously and appropriately validated and coordinated prior to construction / production.
- Development of sophisticated architectural and interior design, capturing both refined outline design and rigorous detailing, built on deep knowledge of buildable design.
- Creation of advanced design documentation (drawings, visuals and specifications) for execution.
- Adapt workflows to both artistic and technical outputs (e.g. from initial indicative feedback for external parties to CNC production ready files).
- R&D, design development, coordination, prototyping and production management of works across a diversity of outputs - including bespoke fit out and furniture, artistic prototypes, sculptural elements, bespoke lighting solutions, architectural elements, templating, models and mock ups.
- Collaboration and coordination with a diversity of external creatives, consultants, suppliers and contractors.
- The use and integration of a diversity of techniques and technologies in the development of works including 3D scanning, sophisticated CAD modelling, visualisation, rapid prototyping and CNC production as well as traditional craftsmanship, including the potential for occasional hands on production.
- A hybrid skillset across industrial/product design, architecture, interiors, and fabrication, with a focus on architectural design and interiors.
- Highly experienced (10+ years) and tested in buildable design with strong evidence of realisation of sophisticated design led projects, seen through from early stage to successful completion. Hands‑on experience of construction and/or production is highly beneficial.
- Material & process knowledge: strong experience with a diversity of materials and production processes from digital fabrication to hand craft.
- Strong creative and design sensibility: the ability to realise and contribute to uncompromised aesthetic visions with functional and buildable…
