Senior Design Manager

Senior Design Manager Are you an experienced Senior Design Manager looking to lead the design delivery on major construction projects? This is an exciting opportunity to join a reputable contractor and take ownership of the design process. About the role of Senior Design Manager As Senior Design Manager, you will provide leadership across the full design process, typically from RIBA Stages 3-6 , ensuring design information is delivered effectively from prequalification through to project completion.

Working closely with internal teams, external consultants, and supply chain partners, you will manage design risk, drive value engineering opportunities, and ensure the design aligns with client requirements and project objectives. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, sustainability, and technical quality while supporting the successful delivery of complex construction projects. Responsibilities for Senior Design Manager Lead and coordinate the design process across consultants, principal designers, and specialist subcontractors.

Ensure design information is delivered in line with the project programme. Identify and communicate design risks impacting cost, programme, and buildability. Develop alternative design solutions to improve value and project outcomes. Manage the Value Engineering process with client and commercial teams. Prepare contractor design proposals for inclusion in project contracts. Represent the company professionally with clients and key stakeholders. Review Employer's Requirements to identify risks, opportunities, and clarifications.

Maintain strong working relationships with clients throughout the design process. Manage consultants and supply chain designers in producing drawings, specifications, and construction documentation. Prepare designer scopes, responsibility matrices, and design programmes. Lead regular design coordination meetings to monitor progress and resolve issues. Monitor consultant performance against project KPIs. Support bids by preparing technical responses to design-related tender questions. Contribute to win strategies and project themes during tender stages.
